It isn't easy being a student-athlete for the lacrosse program. It is a tenet of our program, that our players are as much a student as they are an athlete. Success on the field means nothing if there is no success off the field and in the classroom.
When three of our student-athletes swept the top three awards at CMIT Academy —Valedictorian, Salutatorian, and Student of the Year— our program was euphoric.
Their journey to achieve these awards started long before lacrosse was introduced to CMIT Academy. These achievements have been built upon years of commitment, integrity, and perseverance. Despite numerous difficulties trying to navigate life during a global pandemic, Sarah Suleman '21, Kennedy Jones '21, and Kavyasri Gouda '21 never wavered and achieved the highest honors possible for students at CMIT Academy. The CMIT Women's Lacrosse program is so proud of these three, who constantly pushed the boundaries of what is possible for a student-athlete.
"It's kind of funny that the one thing the three of us have in common is that we play lacrosse. The question is did the program cause our success or did we cause the success of the program? I believe it's both. As teammates and sisters, we nurture each other and bring out the best in one another. Each of us had the potential to become outstanding individuals, but playing lacrosse demanded our full potential to emerge and be put to use. Like we say in our team motto- 'all I have is all I give." - Kavyasri Gouda '21
"The CMIT lacrosse program is filled with so many hardworking and inspirational women. When you’re surrounded by such a great sisterhood, you can’t help but stay motivated to be the best version of yourself. With the support of this sisterhood, nothing is out of reach.
I am so proud of Kennedy, Kavya, and me for winning these awards because they represent the dedication our team has for success on and off the field. I am so excited to see the accomplishments the future has in store for each and every single woman on this team.”- Sarah Suleman '21
"It was such an honor receiving the "CLF Student of the Year" award. Honestly, I never thought I was capable of earning such an award because my grades were never perfect. Of course, I made the honor roll every year, but many other students did too. So what made me different? The only answer I could think of is simply striving to be the best possible version of myself--something I learned from CMIT Lacrosse. A person who is committed to giving all her time, heart, and energy into everything she does; someone who makes great relationships, and enjoys helping others. Needless to say, I was not your ideal student, but I did make a difference. So can you!" - Kennedy Jones '21
