Dear Lacrosse Community,
This letter is to share the information I received from our athletic department and the Maryland Public Secondary School Athletic Association (MPSSAA) regarding our current season, in relation to the novel coronavirus. Under the guidance of the Maryland State Board of Education and the State Superintendent of Schools, it was officially announced that all athletic contests have been canceled for the remainder of the 2019-2020 academic year. While this was not the ending we envisioned for our lacrosse season, the safety of our student-athletes is of our highest concern for our program, and this decision reassures that.
Allow me to express my utmost gratitude and sincere appreciation for the countless sacrifices our student-athletes, parents, and school staff have made. Everyone helped make this season a reality and more importantly, an unforgettable journey. Our program truly could not have done this without you all.
Lacrosse at CMIT Academy is more than a coach and a roster, it is a community built on our resiliency in the face of adversity. It was this same community that pioneered the first charter school lacrosse team in MPSSAA history and established girls’ lacrosse infrastructure in a space where it was previously nonexistent. So, I call upon our community to show that same resiliency as we navigate these unprecedented times and implore us all to keep that burning passion for lacrosse alive inside of us.
We will all meet again. We will come back stronger than ever because that is who we are.
Sincerely,
Sereyrithy S. Sok
