Media Day '21

Updated: May 8, 2021

Since the inception of our lacrosse program, we constantly looked towards our 'media day'. A day where our players could take a moment to don the colors of our program and represent our school.

For other teams, it may seem like another picture day. For us, it was a moment to memorialize our existence. Our program has snapped a few pictures here and there, but to spend that time together in a normal 'media day' seemed impossible.

In 2019, we did not know we were a team until we were thrown into our first varsity game. By the end of that 2019 season, our players were too burned out to put on the soccer jerseys we received as hand-me-downs for a picture day. In 2020, our season was swept away by the COVID-19 pandemic before we even put the finishing touches on our final roster or had the chance to assign jersey numbers. So in 2021, nothing was going to stop our program from having our moment. It is not often that Coach Sok runs a practice where no warm-up is mandated or drills are instructed, so to have everyone come to 'practice' for photos was a nice change of pace.

"Although we have dressed up and taken photos for different events over the years, this is the first time I feel like we actually deserve the representation. There were many moments when I felt like a block in the road would be our last, but we got past it- again and again. Through all our challenges, setbacks, and successes, we have managed to reach a sure footing. Our journey as a team is reflected in who we are today, which greatly outshines what we started as. I think we have reached the level to finally prove that we deserve to be recognized as "CMIT Women's Lacrosse" which is what Kavyasri Gouda '21 had to say about the long-awaited media day.
