As we enter the new year, some of our varsity players provide a reflection of the canceled 2020 season as well as their outlook for the 2021 season:
“This last year has been the hardest emotionally, from finding out school would just be closed for two weeks to it being closed for 9 months. Not being able to spend time with the team and having fun together thinking it was going to be our year was unfortunate. But I know for sure that we’re going to go all out this year, picking up every ground ball and not missing any passes. Practicing on our own at home or even safely practicing with a few teammates boosted my spirits and I’m ready for this upcoming season!”- Roshni Pawar '22
“My aspiration for this upcoming lacrosse season is to have faster feet. To be a defensive player I need to be quick on my feet and have good footwork to prevent my opponent from scoring. I was really looking forward to improving my footwork last season, but it was canceled due to COVID-19. Being quarantined, I bought my own equipment to help me improve my skills from home. My hope is that my results will show during this upcoming season.”- Becky Takang '21
"For this upcoming lacrosse season, I hope to learn more about the sport along with getting closer to my teammates. For my resolution, I want to become better at scoring and cradling."- Lyric Young '22
"If I learned anything from this past year, it's to take nothing for granted. When it's least expected, life can turn upside down in an instant. The global quarantine was something no one saw coming, and it meant indefinite self-isolation. For the last few months, I knew the possibility of having a season this year was a very bleak outlook. Although I can't make memories with my team, the isolation gives me a chance to reflect inward instead. To me, being a lacrosse player always meant acting as one cog in a well-oiled machine. I try to bring the best version of myself to my team so that our team can be the best version of itself. That's why I aim to focus on self-improvement in this upcoming year. Whether that means getting my wallball reps in, practicing shooting, or keeping up my fitness, I want to be at my best. Even if there is a slight hope to play lacrosse with my team for the last time before graduation, I want to be ready for it."- Kavya Gouda '21
"For the 2020-2021 lacrosse season, my goal is to have a positive mindset no matter what happens, focusing on areas or skills that I need to improve on in lacrosse and put my all into everything I do!" - Tatiana Emeruwa '23
Some of our varsity players declared resolutions for life in general:
"My resolution is to live in the now. As a senior, I automatically think about what the future can hold and with that, I got stressed out. I got stressed out because I worried about what major I would pick, the college I got into, or how much debt I would have after college. Yet, I realized none of matters now. I’m young and should enjoy it while it lasts because every moment matters (as cliche as that sounds it’s true). So once again I will be living my life in the now!”- Kennedy Jones '21
Chiming in, a prospective player also joined in reflection and to share her aspirations for the 2021 season:
"I haven't had the opportunity yet to play with the upper-class lacrosse girls and this year has definitely been a struggle, but when the season starts I hopefully will have the honor to play with the team. I know I'll try my best and push myself to the limits to constantly get better and not just settle for good. At the same time bond with the team and form connections that would also show on the field."
