To a Bright Future for Our "Little Sisters"

Updated: Jan 4, 2021

The Fall of 2019 marked the inaugural start to the "CMIT Lacrosse" middle school program. It was an opportunity for our captains Evelyn Terry '21, Kaitlin Quarshie '21, Roshni Pawar '22, Becky Takang '21, and Kavya Gouda '21 to share all the knowledge gained during their Spring 2019 season. By doing so they are able to lay the ground work for the next generation of players who will eventually be their successors.

Up until their semester break, the captains served as the first instructors of the middle school program every Tuesday and Thursday. Although it was a ground breaking idea, much like our varsity program, there were ups and downs in the beginning. But amidst all of those ups and downs were moments of brilliance and of reflection.

Kaitlin Quarshie '21 described one of her best moments of coaching middle school: when she able to catch the flickers of happiness in the faces of the girls when they made that first catch and first pass. It was like going back to day-one for our captains all over again but this time they were available to help the girls with their struggles in understanding lacrosse.

Roshni Pawar '22 commented that like lacrosse did for her during her own season, instructing lacrosse during the middle school season truly brightened her day. It was through watching other girls who've never played lacrosse (similar to herself and the captains) did she feel "satisfied", knowing they would carry these skills with them in the future. She knew they would be the rightful successors to the program after the captains and herself were gone. She knew the future was bright.
