In the Spring of 2012, the head coach (#10) of the CMIT Lacrosse program put his stick down for what he thought was his last time during his senior year. He did not know then what he knew today, that his time with Meade's lacrosse team would shape an entire lacrosse program in the future.
Fast-forwarding to the Winter of 2019, Meade High School of Anne Arundel County is hosting CMIT Academy's varsity girls basketball team. When the schedule was released for this game, the coach and the program's captains decided to make the journey to support the basketball team and meet the"distant cousin" of CMIT Lacrosse.
"Is this where you really grew up?", Evelyn Terry '21 asked the CMIT's Head Coach as they walked through the halls of Meade in awe. She explained that although they were only one county away, Meade felt a world away.
"We are a lot closer to them than you think," the coach responded as he explained that if it were not for the lessons learned in Meade's athletic department, he may have never taken that leap of faith to start the lacrosse program at CMIT Academy. Although we've come a long way as our own program, we still remember the early days in our program where we wore coach's old and torn lacrosse pinnies that read "Meade" across the front.
The night of the Meade vs. CMIT Academy Basketball game, our schools may have been opponents on the court, but in the stands, our varsity captains were able to sit amongst the varsity lacrosse players from Meade High school as friends. Thank you to Coach Mason and his players who showed great hospitality to our team. The advice and tour of a 4A school from Meade's Lacrosse Program is something Evelyn Terry '21, Becky Takang '21, Kaitlin Quarshie '21, and Roshni Pawar '22 will never forget!
